I Love This Yarn – Metallic is a Hobby Lobby exclusive. A version of their signature I Love This Yarn.
Yes, you have to do a seperate review because the yarns don’t behave the same. Sometimes colors in the same line don’t act the same.
So this yarn sparkles. It is also more lush than the regular I Love This Yarn. The acrylic part of this yarn has more heft and is quite snuggly.
I’ve used the yarn in both knit (like the twist headband on the left) and for crochet for my Eden Slouchy.
They have 15 different colors and I think some of the choices are kinda weird. The aqua baffles me. Hobby Lobby is going through a change with their yarn department and it worries me they are going to drop more of their yarns.
The 250 yards is a pretty good sized ball and the sparkle is off the hook – see what I did there? I could have also said off the chain.Love me the crochet humor!
I have thoughts of using it in an afghan with medium sized (less than 12 inch) square or paired with another yarn in a striped afghan. It can fun or elegant depending on the design. I also think it would be great in a cowl – a nice squishy piece and the arm length wrist warmers that can go casually or dressy.
For me, that’s a good marker of a yarn. It is versatile. That’s a good investment of the money and considering this still comes in at $5.00 a ball and one skein can make the cowl or the wrist warmers; it is a bargain.
One thing to watch out for in these yarns – not just this brand: the metallic part is wound around the acrylic yarn and can easily go rogue on some stitches. Eventually, there will some separation at points throughout the piece. I find I have to go back and do a little bit of tightening of a stitch or two to get it lay flat so it won’t catch on anything. It’s minor but important.
