Crafter’s Secret Big Idea is part of Hobby Lobby house yarns. It is what Caron One Pound is for Caron and Pound of Love is to Lion Brand and Big Twist is to JoAnn.

810 yards is a nice hunk of fiber. One Pound is 812, Pound of Love is 1020 and all three cost around $12-$13.

So, do I like Crafter’s Secret Big Idea? Indeed, I do. It has a richer feel than Caron and Pound of Love and it works up really well. I really have to work on my photography so they do justice to the real life project. This cowl is sooooo soft to the touch. Not that irritating soft like Caron Simply Soft. (How anyone can use that stuff is far beyond me. I can’t stand to touch it or any of those other ‘soft’ versions.)

I don’t run into any major splitting problems even when I start a project over (and over) as I sometimes have to do.  It drapes really well and it isn’t heavy in the hands. I loves me some

One Pound but it is heavier than this yarn. It holds onto the texture and pattern very well. Those cables in the Aalborg Cowl in the photo are poppin’!

The place where Crafter’s Secret falls apart? The color choices. One Pound has 42 solid colors. Crafter’s Secret has 24. They are pretty colors but it is somewhat limited given stores don’t often carry all the colors.

I’m not looking for HL to expand the color palette so my go to colors of cranberry, black, green and tweed will just have to do me. But they do an incredible job and I gladly stick with them.
