Big Twist Value Worsted

Value Worsted is the JoAnn player in the workhorse yarn arena. It’s hard to say if it’s going for the Red Heart or I Love This Yarn crowd. It’s sitting in the middle of the them so maybe both. 

I probably have a decent amount of this in my stash. I know I did a little stock up when it went on sale. (Any sale of this yarn is mega cause it’s already inexpensive.)

Recently, I used it for the Dacia scarf pattern sample (pictured). It’s also in some granny squares I’m doing and I made a crochet puff for the puff quilt. All of that from one ball. That’s how they’re going after I Love This Yarn. It has the same softness but a view more yards for a little less money. That same softness and value is why people may want to look at it instead of Red Heart Super saver.

There are 68 colors of Big Twist – which is exclusively a JoAnn product. That color selection is more than HL offers for ILTY-solids and Red Heart’s 65.

It has a lot going for it: color selection, yardage, price. 

If I am going to knit a blanket: I am going to source from Big Twist. There’s no reason not to take advantage of a skein that has almost 30 yards more than ILTY and 20 than RH.

It knits up with a little thicker stitch than the other two. Definitely softer than Red Heart (almost everything is) not quite compared to ILTY, but the fluffiness makes up for it. The stitch definition is there.

I did a double knit beanie pairing this yarn with ILTY print and it more than held its own.

The only setback, and it’s slight, it doesn’t hold up as well in designing when I pull it out and start over. It seems to split and wear a little. Like I said, slight.

Big Twist Value Worsted normally sells for $4.49 but there’s always a JoAnn coupon somewhere so you don’t have to wait every other week like you do for HL.

This yarn is a great value and when I get out from under the yarn embargo I have going on, it will be a staple.
