Caron Big Cakes

For some reason, you can only get the Caron Cake products at Michael’s. But that’s fine. The problem in my area of the city is they are not sold at the Michael’s closest to me. But the work around is to order it online and pick it up. 

That being said, I love these things. They are huge, really soft and have some beautiful colors. They don’t come in solid colors; why would they, Caron has One Pound, and some of the color combos are strange and garish but if you find one you like, such as this one called Cookie Crumble, then you’ve hit the jackpot. I can get a Taffy Pull scarf and a Lacy Slouchy out of a skein and still have a little left over for something else that’s not too big.

I’ve knit and crocheted with it and I can use any type of needle without worrying it will either stick on a wood or slip around on a plated or metal surface. The stitches are well defined and even. It has a consistent softness no matter what color and there’s a lushness to these skeins that isn’t always found in One Pound. They cost $10 and it’s hard to tell how many colors they really offer because they come and go.You’ll find 21 colors listed but then find they are not available. Like always, I will only pay full price at moments of desperation. Thankfully, there’s always a coupon from the store or from a competitor that can be used.

I’m certain if I were to bring in my free range yarn, I would find at least 10 balls of the stuff. I say that because a cursory look around the room shows six. I’d say that was endorsement enough to recommend it.
