I was looking forward to using Red Heart Unforgettable. I have a few skeins of it in my stash after one of those great yarn sales at JoAnn and it took a moment for me to decide what to make with it. As you can see, I decided on a beanie.

They say this is a 4 worsted weight but I don’t buy that. It’s a thin 4 at best and it knits up like a 3. I didn’t use the recommended 8 needle when I made the hat. I went down to a 7 because the gauge was really off for the way I knit and even that might have been too big as the hat came out bigger than I intended. Thank goodness for drawstrings. I do have some more of it and this beanie will be stocked for the shop so I will be making this beanie again so I will be able go down another needle size and see how it comes out.

This yarn was very splitty to me and the twist isn’t very firm so I was glad I didn’t have to pull it out. The colors stripe out beautifully and since the Basic Beanie is a man knit, I was happy the colors stayed true to the cause. If I were using this for a scarf or cowl, I would be greatly pleased with the drape and it feels very nice.

I knit on nickel plated needles and didn’t have a stick or slip problem. There was enough left over from the ball to get a headband out of it. So the almost 280 yard ball can be considered generous. My finished objects wind up in my shop so if I can get two items out of the same ball, that’s considered a good return on my investment.

All that being said, I do like this yarn. I don’t love it and it’s a toss up as to whether I buy it again. It is $6.50 at JoAnn without a coupon. I wouldn’t buy it without a coupon and it would have to be a 40% coupon before I would consider it. On the other hand, it comes in 20 colors and they all look good. This beanie colorway is Polo.

I could change my mind about this when I make another beanie with a smaller needle. If it comes out well and the yarn doesn’t untwist and it gauges better, I could possibly fall in love. But that’s a lot changing for a little bit of love so I’m not counting on it. I’m not disappointed, I’m just not thrilled.
